My Teeth are Starting to Ache …
If you’ve ever had a toothache, you know that the pain of it can be terrible. It is not a fun feeling. Tooth pain can be caused by any of the following things:
- Tooth decay
- Infected gums
- An abscessed tooth
- A damaged filling
- A tooth fracture
- Frequent teeth grinding
Cavities Can Lead to a Toothache
One of the more common of these issues is a cavity. Although cavities are more common in children and young adults, they can happen at any age. A cavity is basically a hole in your tooth that is caused by decay and/or damage to that tooth. The decay is brought on by foods with carbohydrates such as bread, cereals, soda, candy, cake, etc. When you eat these foods, they are more likely to stay on your teeth. The bacteria then turns those food bits into acid and the bacteria, acid, food debris and saliva all combine to form plaque on your teeth, which leads to cavities. Not exactly what we want in our mouths, right?
If you experience a toothache, it is important to see a dentist if your toothache continues longer than one or two days, if your tooth pain is severe or if you have a fever, earache or pain upon opening your mouth. If you see an actual hole or pit in a tooth, you should also call your dentist right away.
